Thanks. Here is another comment I made to a local forum.

"The modern version of "Dixie" is nothing like minstrel acts. If because an early version of it was used in menstrel shows makes it offensive today, then ALL songs from that period should be held by the same standard. Almost all of Stephen Fosters songs, and you can bet every popular American song from 1840s to 1930s was done in black face by someone, even black performers performed in "black face" it was an accepted style of act. The song "Dixie" is being attacked because it is promoting the South in a good light. If the song was negative against the South it would be accepted without argument."
