July 21, 1861 - Battle of Bull Run - A U.S. Marine Battalion, commanded by Maj. John G. Reynolds, was a part of the Federal Army of Northern Virginia's First Brigade. This battalion, consisting of 12 officers and 353 enlisted U.S. Marines, fight Stonewall Jackson's Brigade on Henry House Hill.

They broke and ran 3 times under heavy cavalry and infantry attacks.
