I have never thought about it before, but my Great Grandmother, we called her "Nanny", was a Real Daughter. Her father, was 15 when he enlisted into a Alabama independent mounted infantry company in 1864. The family kept his uniform up until the 1980s when it was lost in a tragic fire. She was a Southern lady through and through and was a wealth of information and memories. I have a picture of her around 1910, standing on the banks of the Tombigbee River getting ready to board the Mary S. Blees stern paddle-wheeler for a trip to Mobile. A real beauty in her day, she never cut her hair and she kept it in a tight bun, I once saw her combing it and it touched the floor. Nanny also liked snuff.
