Offhand I can't tell you the date of the letter, I know he wanted a waistcoat and maybe pants of black jean material, that is about all i can remember. I know also he was KIA at the battle of Chickamauga, so he didn't see the last years of the war.
I also know that because of losses the 7th Miss. Regt and the 9th were consolidated into the 9th Mississippi late in the war. Exactly what date I do not know.
If you don't mind I would like your comments on this statement found at---http://lewis-genealogy.org/genealogy/History/7th-Miss.htm
"Research Note: The 7th Miss and the Mississippi Brigade are described as barefoot and bedraggled. But, Bragg wanted to stack his best division with Longstreet's Corps for the knockout blow on the Union right. And, Bragg picked Hindman's Division. If the 7th Miss and the Mississippi Brigade were his best, how bedraggled was the rest of Bragg's Army."
I ask because I don't study battles and the Confederate army as such, but am more interested in the start of the war and causes. Also if you have any info on any Black Confederates i would appreciate you sharing that if you don't mind. I will post it at ---http://negrosingrey.southernheritageadvancementpreservationeducation.com/page.php?2
