The 17th Miss Batln and the 17th Tenn Batln were put together to make the 9th Miss Cav Regt under Miller. They were in the Atlanta Campaign and the worst battle they were in was at Dallas, Ga on May 29, 1864 on the New Hope Line. In the fall, the regiment was broken up and all the mounted troopers went with Wheeler and stayed in the Carolinas. The dismounted men (no available horses), under Maj Steede, were sent to Mobile where they remained until the end of the war.
