I wrote the MDAH regarding J W Cowart's service, and they conclude he served in the 7th Infantry Battalion, Company C. They believe he was erroneously recorded in the 7th Regiment, Company C, on the 1907 Jones County list of Surviving Veterans and Widows. He apparently joined in October 1864, and since the MDAH has no records on the 7th Infantry Battalion after August 1864, there is no CMSR for him.
My question is, does anyone here have any information on the 7th Infantry Battalion from late 1864 to the War's end?
