Rick, I also have another question. I was given a small book titled 'Primitive Hymns' that belonged to my ancestor who fought in this unit. My ancestor could not write but his name that someone wrote in the book looks just like the handwriting that was signed on his 'Paroled' sheet. The little book is from 1841. Could it be that the person who wrote my ancestors name on his paroled sheet gave him this little book and wrote my ancestors name in it for him?
I was thrilled to have something that once belonged to my ancestor that he actually had his hands on perhaps even during the war.
