Historic Telegraphers

Those two old historic telegraphers, Colonel Philip H. Fall and Major Lee S. Daniel, both of Texas, the former from Houston, the latter from Victoria, arrived in the city yesterday morning. These two veterans have the credit of having prevented the surprise of Vicksburg by the great Federal fleet under General Sherman, Christmas day, 1862, thereby preventing the severance of the Confederacy in twain and prolonging the war for two years. Col. Fall is on the staff of Gen. Stephen D. Lee, and Major Daniel on the staff of Gen. K.M. Vanzandt. (Sic) They attend each recurring reunion together. They have in charge the celebrated banner commemorating the battle of Sabine Pass. This banner is displayed in a Fourth street window.
