Re: Company K, 7 Mississippi Cavalry

LaJoy - The 7th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry was organized August 1, 1862, as the 1st Regiment Mississippi Partisan Rangers, was temporarily disbanded Novvember 15, 1862, and re-organized March 1, 1863. The designation was changed August 1, 1864, to 7th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry by Special Order 169, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office, date July 19, 1864. It was commanded for some time by Col. William Falkner of Ripley, great-grandfather of the author who changed the spelling of the last name to Faulkner.

Here is a fairly comprehensive history: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mscivilw/history/rangers.htm

There are four cards in Maricle's record, indicating that he did enlist on April 1, 1864, but with different places listed - Ripley, Panola, and Boneyard. One card indicates that he was a resident of Jonesborough in Tippah County. It states that he "Participated in battle Harrisburg & Oxford conduct bad but acted gallantly."

Copies of his record can be ordered here and orders support this forum: http://history-sites.com/research/
