A Determined Spirit

Among the Mississippi troops which left for Harper's Ferry on Saturday, we met with one gentleman who has had the misfortune to lose his right arm from near the elbow, but who, although rejected as unfit for service, has determined to follow his State troops, and take part with them in whatever conflict they may be engaged. He fought gallantly throughout the Mexican War, and declares that he is yet man enough for any half-dozen of Lincoln's minions-the aim of his rifle being as unerring as it ever was. He pays his own expenses, and is ready to sacrifice all he possesses - a considerable fortune - in driving back the invaders from our soil.
