Franklin Church

The last part of April. April 15th, 2012 the last time I attended.

In 2011 it was April 28th, 2011.
Very little publicity.

We Have Big, Big News!!! Thanks to our Friends Jim Woodrick and Todd Sanders at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, Franklin Church has its own Historical Marker! It reads as follows. “During Brigadier General Benjamin Grierson's Raid in the late winter of 1864 – 1865, a small Confederate Brigade under the command of General Writ Adams attacked the rear guard of one of Grierson's Columns at Franklin Church on January 02nd, 1865. Mon the Federal Units engaged here was the 2nd United States Colored Cavalry, composed of men recruited from Mississippi. Unable to defeat the Federal Forces at Franklin Church, Wirt Adams abandoned his pursuit of Grierson, who proceed to Vicksburg.”

I found where a man from Vicksburg was among to colored troops.
