Templeton's Plantation

Dear James;
You asked about Templeton's Plantation.
Templeton's Plantation was located on what we know today as Oak Ridge Road
in the Country Community known as Villa Nova.
If you are not familiar with the area, Villa Nova is located a short distance from Mr. Phillip Erwin home. Mr. Ervin's home is the large house with the Dozen or Fifteen very large pine trees in the front yard on the East side of Oak Ridge Road.
In 1863, there was a road that left Milldate (Swiming Pool) and followed the Ridge Line Southward to Goall Road and then Eastward to Oak Ridge Road at Villa Nova.
The couple of miles from Milldale - Swimming Pool to Goall Road has been abandoned for many - many years.
As you know, that d--- Ole Sherman put a Line of Defense from Snyders Bluff to the Mouth of Messenger's Creek on Big Black River to portect General Grant's back during the Siege.
I would suspect this road was General Sherman's Line of Defense.
I will create a controversary, most people think he used Whatley Road to Goall Road and then Eastward to Oak Ridge Road.
Also, Messinger's Creek enters the Big Black a Couple of miles up stream from modern day Highway I 20 Bridge. From the Hinds County side. It was said that the Sand Bar at the Mouth of Messenger's Creek was the last place downstream that Big Black River could be Forded.
Downstream from Messenger's Big Black was crossed by Ferry.
The only Birdge between Messenger's and the Mississippi RIver was the Rail Road Bridge at Bovina, east of Vicksburg.
