Re: John A. Comfort of Co. I 13th MS. Inf.

George, I agree and as you probably noted Jennie was the daughter. She is the one who made the application for her fathers tombstone on January 22, 1931. The tombstone was made in Tate, Georgia in 1931 which at this time was also known as the Georgia Marble Company. As Rick mentioned the tombstone was sent to Cauld W. Comfort in Kosciusko, Mississippi from Tate, Georgia on March 20, 1931.

The tombstone was made within regulations as set by Congress in 1906. The Confederate tombstone was made from number two grade marble from the quarries of the Georgia Marble Company. Grade number one was used for monuments including the Lincoln Memorial finished in 1922 and also came from the Georgia Marble Company.

The Columbus Marble Works located in Columbus, Mississippi was also used in making several Confederate tombstones in Mississippi.

I do apologize for not being more clear. Ann Breedlove is the person who actually found the obituary in Kosciusko, Mississippi but using the site on ancestry I was able to give her a date that was more accurate.
