Rick, You're correct in fact the U.S., Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925-1963 located at ancestry was used to be able to find the obituary which started off this thread. While Miss Jennie Edwards may have been a member of the UDC she did not apply for the tombstone in behalf of the UDC. Rather she was related to him.
