Would like to help you with your project
I am a member of the Vicksburg Genealogy Society.
Would comment that it appears the Confederate Records and the Census' have been fully discussed
Would remind that both outfits made errors.
Thus - Will not be getting into those records.
We have some very good local records in Vicksburg.
For instance; The Warren County Court House in Vicksburg, Missisisppi, has;
The Marriage License File susposedly from Day 1, about 1807.
If your man was married in Vicksburg or Warren COunty, Missisisppi, he / she should be here.
Also, the Chancery Clerk's Office has the Ownership of Property Since Day One.
Also, the Records of Wills since day one
The VIcksburg City Cemetery has Records of the Purchase of Grave Spaces from about 1837 until the Civil War.
I would caution that from the Civil War until about 1940 this does not apply (Much Confusion.)
During this era some good informaton, but much missing.
The Vicksburg Public Library has a file of Local Newspapers on Microfilm, from the beginning
(About 1830,) until the Present.
And yes there are errors and mistakes, howver, we must be thankful for what we have.
For instance, the Newspapers; Yes, some are illegable, (Some time a whole Role.)
An Occasional Issue is missing. And occasional article is illegable.
But a tremendous amount is legable and available information.
I have been reading the old newspapers for years and have only scratched
the surface.
More Later
