Dear Rose;
From my experience;
My family was all in Southwest Missisisppi from the beginning.
Mostly, Jefferson, Claiborne, Hinds, Copiah and lately Warren Counties.
I have many ancestors who were Confederate Veterans.
(All of them I think.)
Direct Ancestors, also Uncles, Uncles - in - Law, Cousin & Cousins - in - Law and whatever.
I have looked up quite a few of them.
All were Privates in the Confederate Army.

There are many, many, many errors, gaps, holes and whatever in the Confederate Records and information

I had one ancestor who one month was marked as a deserter and he had stolen a Ho
rse and Pistol when he left. The Next month he was back in the ranks as if nothing had happened. Thus, what ever it was, they got straight i must suppose.

I think we must take what information we find and be thankful and keep looking.
The main thing, from my experience, is not to give up.
