Re: Henry Benton Shows, 7th Miss. Batt.

Many men died after the battle and were buried along the route taken by Johnston's army. Some were identified by messages with wooden markers, some had their name sewn into their clothes, and some were left near a tree or stone where there name was carved to Mark their burial. After the war the women of Marietta exhumed those they could find and reinterred them in the Confederate Cemetery in 1866. There are 3000 unknowns buried there. Good news there us an increasing record of men being identified there.

If Cooper was killed on the 14th, however, he was probably buried on the battlefield that night. If so it is very likely he was required in the Resaca Cemetery. Even some men buried on the 14th were removed to Marietta if they were not moved to Resaca. Men killed on the 15th it could go either way.
