Union Colonel G. T. Tucker -- who is he?

I am working on an article about the Confederate cemetery, Soldiers' Rest in Vicksburg. After the siege, Union and Confederate gathered their dead for burial. According to Confederate Veteran, Vol. III, pg. 100, the Confederate Cemetery Association (cr. 1866) gave thanks to "Col. G. T. Tucker, of the United States Army, who magnanimously made a record of 3,000 Confederate graves he found while gathering the Federal dead [from the Vicksburg area]."

I can find no mention of Col. G. T. Tucker elsewhere.

I have searched fold3.com Union service records, their "Callahan's List of Navy and Marine Corps Officers" (1775-1900), nps.gov's "Search for Soldiers," "War of Rebellion Official Records," and have used search engines.

I have seen this name in a recent source as Col. "Parker," but I think that is incorrect, and I tend to trust the more contemporary report of Tucker. (Yes, I also checked out the Parkers. :)

My Soldiers' Rest work is at tinyurl.com/soldiers-rest

Thanks very much for any help. /Anna
