Re: Two Mississippi brothers off to war

For those who may be interesting in these and other stories concerning former Confederate soldiers from Mississippi and other Confederate States in the Union's 3rd Maryland Cavalry, I have donated the material to the Fort Delaware Society. In my opinion there are many interesting stories concerning these soldiers and some of the information was taken from pension records at the Archives in Washington. From my understanding a researcher or an interested individual may visit the FDS and have access to the material. More than 400 former Confederates joined the 3rd Maryland Cavalry for a myriad of reasons and the vast majority were former POW's at Fort Delaware. These former Confederate soldiers and a few Union deserters claiming to be former Confederates took me nearly two years to complete and some of their stories are amazing. One of their stories appeared in the Fort Delaware Society Magazine earlier this year. And needless to say Mr. Hugh Simmons was instrumental in helping with many of the biographies.
