Captain Scales of the 5th Miss. Cav

Although the 1907 register was not used in making the tombstone at Camp Chase it still is a valuable source of information. There are only about a dozen places in the country where carry the hard copies of the 1907 Register and only one place online that I know of and that is www.scvohio.org/campchase/ Looking under historical documents and titled "1907 Listing of graves" also it is also noted there was a 1912 register as well.

Much more information for researchers will become available in the future on this site.

As an example you will see a notation in the 1907 register of a Captain Scales of Company D of the 5th Mississippi Cavalry. He died at Camp Chase on April 9, 1864. The notation mentions his body being removed. Using Find A Grave as one vehicle one can now see where Captain Scales was re-interred. He was taken to the Elwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.

In my opinion this 1907 register can provide additional information for those hunting for ancestors or general research of Camp Chase. This site needless to say is free. Also keep in mind that some of the surname spellings are incorrect and in a few cases unit information. For example Benjamin Martin was listed with the Beauregard's Louisiana Artillery. It should have been Captain Beauregard's Company also known as Ferguson's Light Artillery of South Carolina. I found it interesting that Captain Rene T. Beauregard was the son of General Beauregard.
