Re: 10th MS Infantry: Execution of young Pvt Mulli

In regards to providing information for (hopefully) a history of the 10th Mississippi Infantry, I could provide a little information, including a photo, of my GGGrandfather, James Madison Walker who joined the 10th, apparently as it was being organized in Corinth in March 1862, and was elected Captain. Less than a month later he would see combat and be wounded at Shiloh. Later that same year he was engaged in the battle at Munfordville, KY as commander of Co. A. The fighting was intense and in the course of the battle he found himself in command of the entire regiment. In Brig Gen Chalmer's report of the battle he states, "In this attack Colonel Smith of the Tenth Mississippi Regiment was dangerously wounded; Lt Col Bullard of the same Regiment was killed. By the fall of these Officers the command devolved upon Captain J.M. Walker, who discharged that duty during the remainder of the engagement in a highly satisfactory manner." He was soon promoted to Lt Col and later to Col. Some time later because of a cronic illness he was forced to resign.
If I can help in any way, please let me know.
