Carolyn, As you may already know Allen Webb shows up in the 1860 United States census as living in Ouachita County, in the household of E. A. and Martha H. Webb with the nearest Post Office listed as Liberty and it mentioned Allen Webb, age 15, born about 1845, as born in Tennessee.

If he was exchanged he could have opted out of the service if his age was under 18. I am referring to the 1st Confederate Conscription Act passed on April 16, 1862 which did not conscript soldiers under the age of eighteen. However he would have been eligible again once he arrived at military age. There was a Allen Webb in Company A 22nd Battalion Tennessee Infantry. This particular Allen Webb enlisted on November 17, 1862 and was reported as absent without leave since January 4, 1863.

You have a nice little mystery on your hands but believe with due diligence you will be able to figure it out. Good Luck.
