Milldale was the site of a Confederate Field Hospital up to at least April 22, 1863. It is well defined on Map #58 of Warren Grabau’s Ninety-Eight Days, A Geographer’s View of the Vicksburg Campaign. Located just over 4 miles north of Templeton’s on the Milldale road where there is a junction to Coon.

Grabau’s Map #17 shows Milldale about 14 miles to the North & East of Vicksburg.

William H. Majors, 43rd Mississippi Infantry, died April 22, 1863 at Milldale Field Hospital about 10 miles to the "rear" of Vicksburg.
