Rick, I think this is a common transcription error. I have seen the number 11 transcribed as a 4. when the first 1 and the second 1 are connected diagonally by the writer not lifting his pen. It looks like a reversed "N" or 4. If the first 1 is smaller than the second 1, it could easily be transcribed as a 7. As for enlistment dates, Depending on the time of the roll, different dates were included. One date for original enlistment, one when entering Confederate service, and later at last reenlistment. So he could have been in the 11th from for the war.
