Re: Pound's Battalion, 43rd Mississippi

Pound's Battalion was, indeed, cut off from the rest of the 43rd MS Infantry at Vicksburg.

Co. H, 43rd MS Infantry, which became the nucleus of Pound's Battalion MS Sharpshooters, was on detached service on Deer Creek when Vicksburg was invested.

Being cut off from their regiment, Co. H was assigned to Ector's Brigade and sent to GA.

As Pound's Battalion, this sub-unit of the 43rd MS fought in the early action at Chickamauga with Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Compatriot Scott Bell, TX Division, SCV, is, even now, putting the finishing touches on our history of the 43rd MS Infantry, including the history of Pound's Battalion MS Sharpshooters. -- Jim Huffman, Co-Historian, 43rd MS Infantry
