Henry Hiram Garrett

Might you have any information for my first cousin about his Confederate grandfather, Henry Hiram Garrett who married a much younger widow, Frances Cooper Neely? He was born in March 1842 in SC according to censuses. He lived in Choctaw Co., MS in 1850 & 1860 & later in Montgomery Co., MS (probably same part which had been part of Choctaw Co. earlier). From my notes, he was in the artillery and served in Vicksburg with his brother, Virgil who surrendered his weapon at Vicksburg. Their brother, John, was in the battle at Chattanooga, had a shrapnel wound in his head and died about 1923.

Our Scottsdale Civil War Round Table had an interesting talk on Feb. 18, "Shut up as in a Trap: Citizens Under Siege," by Terry Winschel which was mainly about the people of Vicksburg during the siege. You can listen to it at http://www.scottsdalecwrt.org/SCWRT2014Feb18vitkal.mp3

Thanks,
Mary Anne
