The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

April

Some year ago my wife and I visited Vicksburg and at the Court House Museum bought a Bonny Blue Flag. Growing up in Alabama (1950's), April was when the high school band lead the parade to the local cemetery to place flags and flowers at the Confederate graves. I'm sure that does not take place today, except in my memory.

For the past several years, on April 1st, I take down the Stars and Bars, that flies on the front of our home, and for 30 days fly the Bonny Blue for Memorial Month. It brings back a flood of memories. I got to thinking and we have roots in every Confederate State and have kin in graves from Mississippi to Alabama to Tennessee to Missouri to Pennsylvania.

I know different states have different months and days for memorials but April has always been my time for remembrance. I hope each of you will share in the memories. 150 years was a long tome ago and just yesterday.

I'd post photos of the Blue Flag but I'm no adapt at such things.
