Bill,

The 43rd Mississippi Infantry was assigned to the 3rd Brigade of Brig. Gen. Martin E. Green of Little's/Hebert's division. As the 2nd and 4th brigades did all of the fighting it is not easy to pinpoint the location of Col. William H. Moore's 43rd Mississippi during the fight.

According to Pvt. James Davis of Company C the regiment was on the far right of the division when the fighting began on the far left. "we had to doble quick for 3 or 4 miles to get to the fight but was most two late for the fight but enuff to hear balls rottle over our heads and to make the yanks run away."

The regiment is not mentioned in the reports of General Price or General Little. The 43rd lost four men captured and oned who died in Iuka on September 19th of unknown cause.

Perhaps our resident expert on the 43rd, Jim Huffman, can shed some light.
