Here is what I find of the two H. Cains. I believe there is some commingling of the two records.

Hardy H. Cain, Private, Capt. W. J. Proby's Company (Franklin Rifles), 7th Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers,*enlisted April 25, 1861 in Franklin County by W. R. Clark for 1 year, severely wounded at Murfreesboro, Tenn. and sent to hospital December 31, 1862, stricken from rolls as deserter February 18, 1863, recorded present on the July/August, 1863 muster roll, sent to Gen. Hospital September 25, 1863, present at the end of the year, last recorded present August 31, 1864, no further records

* This company subsequently became Company A, 7th Regiment Mississippi Infantry
