Re: Wm. T. McMillan, Co K, 44th Miss Inf

Rechecking the Record of Events for the other companies of the regiment, it appears that their route of march was to parallel the railroad to Chattanooga.

Company C
August 22.— Marched to Whiteside's Station on the Nashville
and Chattanooga Railroad [and stayed] over there for one day.
August 23.— Marched from that place to this [place, Chattanooga] without anything occurring of note

There appears to be a road way paralleling the Nashville and Chattanooga RR south of the river and passing through Belmont, Nickjack Cave, and Whiteside. [Plate 61-9] The distance along this route from Taylor's Store to Chattanooga is approximately 25 miles.

Company E
July 12.— Left Chattanooga (changed stations) and traveled on
the railroad. Arrived at Taylor's Store, near Bridgeport.
Remained on picket duty some five weeks.
August 21.— The company, with the troops of the brigade, were
withdrawn to Chattanooga. Left Taylor's Store in the evening.
August 24.— Arrived at Chattanooga in the morning. Distance
marched twenty-five miles.

Co. F
July 6.— Arrived at Chattanooga, having marched seventy-five
miles, and remained.
July 12.— The company left for Taylor's Store, near Bridgeport,
Alabama. Arrived the same day on the Nashville and Chat-
tanooga Railroad and remained.
August 21.— Left with the brigade.

August 24.— Arrived at Chattanooga in the morning, having
marched twenty-five miles.
