Bruce's batallion???

I have a gg grandfather who was from Tippah County, MS. His name was James William Smith. He was wounded at Shiloh and taken to a hospital at Corinth, MS. He was put on a train along with several hundred other soldiers and sent to Memphis. He was treated at the old Overton Hospital where he died just over a month later from typhoid. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. In the record that the cemetery has, it says that he was with Bruce's batallion. I cannot seem to find anything on Bruce's batallion. Anyone know anything about Bruce's batallion?
