The 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry was organized September 10, 1863, as the 19th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry. It was increased to a regiment February 15, 1864, and known as Duff's Regiment Mississippi Cavalry until designated the 8th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry . . . July 19, 1864.
