R.M. Banks Ms. CSA soldier

On the Civil War soldiers and sailors there is a soldier named R.M. Banks. He was in the 9th Ms. Infantry. Also on the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors, there is a soldier named R. N. Banks. He was in the 18th. Ms. Cavalry. He was shown to be a Sgt. then, promoted to 2nd. Lt.
I found the R.M. Banks in Desoto county in 1870 and 1880 census and I read that he had served in the 18th Ms. Cavalry during the war. It also said he was a 2nd. Lt. in the service. I would like to know if anyone can tell me if this R.M Banks and R.N. Banks could be the same person, I cannot find R.N. Banks on a census record in Ms.

Thanks for your help.
