He was only held in Nashville for a few days before being forwarded on to a permanent prison camp, with a brief stop in Louisville, Ky.

As previously noted, his Compiled Service Records may be procured through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above.

Note that his records are filed under the name: J. W. Kayzar

James W. Kayzar, captured at Nashville, December 16, 1864, forwarded December 20 to Military Prison, Louisville, Ky., transferred to Camp Chase, Ohio prison camp, January 4, arriving two days later, subscribed to the Oath of Allegiance to the United States June 12, 1865*, description: resident of Lawrence Co. Mississippi, fair complexion, light hair, hazel eyes, 6' 1/2", age 21
