The Neshoba County, MS GenWeb site lists Hardy Williamson as having died at Point Lookout on 18 February 1864. Baxter McFarland's article on the 11th Mississippi at Gettysburg states that Company D entered the battle of Gettysburg with 55 officers and men, and lost 15 killed, 26 wounded, and 5 captured unwounded, leaving but 9 who escaped unwounded. Hugh W. Wilson was one of the lucky ones to escape unhurt, although his clothing was pierced with 13 bullet holes. Company Captain John A. Prince made it through Gettysburg only to be wounded at Falling Waters on 14 July during the retreat from Pennsylvania. Another company officer, Lieutenant Henry D. Hester, was captured on 3 July in the charge on the Union center. The 11th's losses are even more amazing considering that the regiment did not reach the field until the night of 2 July, having been detached to guard the division wagon trains and thus completely missed the bloody first day of fighting on 1 July. They would have sustained all or nearly all their losses in the Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble charge on 3 July 1863.
