Cyndi, it's been four years since you made this post, so I hope you are still out there. Capt. Isbell was my great grandfather, and I can tell you a lot about him. His company did not come from a specific county. He enlisted first in the AL infantry and came down with typhoid fever in Mobile. His mother bought a substitute for him and took him back to their plantation in Sumter county to get well. When he recovered, she bought him a war horse and he enlisted in the 12th Mississippi. He surrendered his company with Forrest at Gainesville at the end of the war.
