John W. Taylor**, Private, Company G, 2nd Regiment Mississippi and Alabama Cavalry,* enlisted November 14, 1861 at Columbus, Mississippi by Capt. Yancy for 12 months, captured by enemy May 14, 1862 at Purdy, Tenn., detailed as Teamster September 15, 1863 by order Col. Wade, admitted September 27, 1864 to St. Mary's Hospital, Union Springs, Alabama, Dropsy Chest, returned to duty October 15, furloughed November 20, 1864, since reported at Columbus by order of Col. Wade where he was recorded the end of the year, among the men surrendered at Citronelle May 4, 1965 and paroled May 17 at Columbus, Miss.

* This company was formerly Company D, 4th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry and Company E, 2nd (Brewer's) Battalion Mississippi and Alabama Cavalry. Subsequently, [Flood's] Company G, 8th (Wade's) Confederate Cavalry.

The 8th (Wade's) Regiment Confederate Cavalry (also known as the 2nd Regiment Mississippi and Alabama Cavalry; was formed in May, 1862, by the addition of three companies, which had formerly served in the 1st (Beall's) Battalion Alabama Cavalry, to the 2nd (Brewer's) Battalion.
