I just completed a search of the roster for the 43rd Tennessee, coming up with about 53 who were captured in the hospital and shipped out on the 24th.
Should have done this years ago. I record below.
Thus, we need to find the name of the steamer which departed that date or within a few days thereafter. Based on Cawoods recorded death, August 2 or 5 at Point Clear, Mobile Bay, we have that period as the end point of their arrival the Mobile area.
George
The only subsequent death we have a record of on their subsequent travels is that of Capt. Cawood who according to the March 11, 1864 muster was recorded of having died at Pt. Clorr [sic] August 5, 1863. A muster roll dated January 1865, records he was killed August 2, 1865. His place of death, Pt. Clorr, had me mystified for a number of years until I learned of the finding of burial trenches at the Grand Hotel Confederate Hospital at Pt. Clear, Mobile Bay. Obviously, a typographical error resulted in the reading of Pt. Clorr which should have been Pt. Clear. I subsequently worked with the local SCV folks and got a VA marker for him.
