Record of Events

Company I (Southern Rights)

Stationed at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September-October 1862.
Stationed at Camp Barksdale near Vicksburg, Mississippi,
November-December 1862.
December 27.— We were ordered to Chickasaw Bayou to meet
the enemy, who were landing in force. Engaged in the battle.
Stationed at Camp Barksdale near Vicksburg, Mississippi, Jan-
uary-February 1863.
This company constitutes a part of S. D. Lee's Brigade and
M. L. Smith's Division. Has been on duty such as picketing and
patrol duty all the time in and around Vicksburg, Mississippi. No
change of station during the last two months or last muster.
Stationed near Enterprise, Mississippi, [MarchJ-October 1863.
March 28.— This company constitutes a part of the First
Brigade, Smith's Division. Marched with the regiment to Deer
Creek, a distance of fifteen miles.
April 20.— Returned to Vicksburg.
April 29-30.— Marched with the brigade for Port Gibson, a dis-
tance of fifty miles.
May 1.— Engaged in the fight at that place.
May 2.— From thence marched to Grand Gulf.
May 4.— From thence returned to Vicksburg.
May 5.— Marched with the regiment to Big Black, twelve miles
below Vicksburg.

May 15.— From thence [marched] to Mount Alban.
May 16.— From thence [marched] to Bovina.
May 17.— Covered the retreat with the brigade from Big Black
Bridge.
May 19.— Went into the ditches at Vicksburg.
July 4.— Was captured.
July 10.— [Was] relieved on parole.

Stationed at Sugar Valley, Georgia, November-December 1863.
This company constitutes a part of Baldwin's Brigade,
[William Henry Talbot] Walker's Division.
November 21.— Received marching orders.
November 22.— Took the cars from Enterprise, Mississippi.
November 27.— Arrived at Dalton, Georgia, a distance of 500
miles. From thence [traveled] back to Resaca, Georgia, a dis-
tance of seventeen miles. Remained there camped.
December 21.— Moved to Sugar Valley, Georgia, where they
remain still.

Stationed at Mobile, Alabama, January-February 1864.
This company constitutes a part of Baldwin's Brigade.
January 15.— Received orders to go to Mobile.
January 17.— Took the cars at Resaca, Georgia.
January 22.— Arrived at Mobile and camped at Dog River Fac-
tory.
February 5.— Received orders to go to Meridian.
February 7.— Arrived at Meridian.
February 11.— Returned to Mobile, where they still remain.
The company deserted on the approach of the enemy at
Meridian.
[This is the last muster report which survived to be incorporated in the Compiled Service Record]
