A very good source of information on the regiments travels is found in Broadfoot's Supplement of the Offical Records, in their volumes covering unit Record of Events, see:

Record of Events for Forty-sixth Mississippi Infantry (formerly Balfour's Sixth Battalion),
November 1861-June 1865.
