Re: Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond 42nd MS

VA ordering information is found at: http://www.cem.va.gov/hm_hm.asp

I'm not sure, but I believe you need to be related to him. Any SCV Camp should be able to assist you in the process.

I take it you know he is buried in Hollywood, either way, you will need Cemetery Management approval to place the stone on their grounds and that has to be documented on your application.

You must prove honorable service and should only need copies of his Compiled Service Records which may be procured through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above.

Following is the basic information from his record, but, do not replace the necessary records you will receive per above:

John F Foster, 42nd Regiment Mississippi Infantry, Company F.

John F. Foster, age 33, enlisted as a Private in Captain Thomas G. Clark's Company, 42nd Regiment Mississippi Volunteers*, April 29,1862 at Oxford, Calhoun County, Mississippi by M. L. D. Stephens for 3 years or the war, died at Camp Moot [sp?]/at Richmond, Virginia, September 13, 1862 of disease, his widow Eugenia [sp?] Foster filed claim for his effects and allowances [I cannot read her affidavits on-line to note if any children are mentioned]

* This company subsequently became Company F, 42nd Regiment Mississippi Infantry
