I'm looking for some advice as to where to go for information on my gg-grandfather Thomas L McNatt, buried at Jackson Camp Cemetery, Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He died in 1888.

I looked at the headstone, there are no dates, but it is a military headstone with an emblem at the top. I did take a photograph.

On his wife's application it only says, Civil War--"General Forrest's Co. A". Until 1870 he lived in Franklin County, Alabama.

On the application his wife is listed as Mary J McNatt.

I'm trying to find out what "General Forrest's Co. A" means.
