2nd Mississippi Cavalry
My Great, Great Grandfather, Daniel Harkey, was in Company K, of the 2nd Mississippi Cavalry. He died in September 1863. Family legend says that he was killed by deserters near Kosciusko, MS while on leave home to Leake County MS.
Is there any way that I can confirm this. Are there detailed records of leaves granted? Would his death have been recorded in Company K records or reports? If so, where can I find them? Were death certificates issued for Confederate soldiers?
