I think James may have been just old enough to strike out on his own and ended up living in Grenada, MS with the David Cochran family. I have wondered if David Cochran (various spellings) might be a brother or someone, related to Margaret. they all were from NC.
I think James married Amanda Cochran and they were the parents of George Kirk born 1857. this is all on assumption that these people could be, not positive, ancestors of mine. There is John Kirk, born 1745, father of Parham H. Kirk, born 1782 who was father of Davidson Kirk. i could not determine who the mothers/spouses were, in this group, til we get to Margaret, where she gave birth to James W. Kirk in NC.
Which Hinds County are you referring to? what state??? how interesting this is becoming.,
James Kirk & Amanda Cochran were living in Lafayette County, MS in 1860, and he also shows up with her parents in 1860 in Grenada County, MS. Amanda does not appear on this census, but 3 year old George Kirk does.
I am grasping at George growing up and marrying my GGrandmother Feletia Smith in Benton County, MS in 1884, fathering my grandfather Smith Hamilton Kirk in 1885.
My father is named George Kirk also. is this making any sense yet? can you see where i am stumped. i have no concrete info on the first George Kirk.
Margaret and Davidson Kirk had several children. i have traced some of them all the way to Oregon. In 1960 they were living with adult son, William Kirk in Flat Lick, Knox, Kentucky.
where can i get something on Hinds County jail? what was the offense? how much time? wonder if James was incarcerated at some point and that is why he isnt showing on a census after 1860. or did he go to war? thanks for your interest. NJK
