In 1860, also he is shown with Amanda and daughter Sarah, in Lafayette County, in the Kirk household. i dont understand why he is shown in two locations in 1860.
George would have been 3 years old, but is not shown. Rpbert was born in 1862.
In 1870, he is not shown in Grenada County Township 23, but Amanda, Sarah, George and Robert are living there with her family, spelled David Cochnan in that census. George is shown as 13 years old.
It is hard to keep straight. Where will i get the most info, about this man's family, place and date of birth? is all that shown in war records? i am trying to see if he is the father of man i think might be my Great Grandfather, George H. Kirk. i cant find what happened to any of this family, Cockrans included, after 1870. name also spelled Cochran along the way.
I have learned thru my digging that i am connected to William Allen Crum, Confederate soldier, who fought with 17th Mississippi Infantry at Gettysburg, was wounded and returned to a prominent life in Benton County, MS. it has really stirred my curiosity. i am 72 and wish i had started this long ago.
Thank you for your attention. N. J. Kirk
