I believe that you meant Jackson Miss., not Jacksonville,Miss. My ancestor, Sgt. Maj. Oscar E. Stuart, served under Col. E.R. Burt (Burt's riflles - CO. K 18th Miss. Infantry). Oscar was wounded in the Balls Bluff Battle at the same time that Col Burt was mortally wounded. I found an diary online that contained a short account of Col. Burt's care after he was wounded.

Oscar Stuart is also mentioned in this diary. Oscar was later promoted to Adjutant and was killed in the Second Battle of Fredricksburg at Mayre's Heights. (Oscar was the second cousin of Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart).

I am including the links to the diary (see entry for Nov. 21st) and to the "findagrave" sites of Gen. Barksdale and Col Burt.
