Card #7 Pickens Station Jany 20, 1863, Lieut. Genl Pemberton,

Genl, I have the honor to report that I have executed your order to arrest deserters & conscripts in Leake Co. as far as practicable __________ ed. first[???] deserters still remain in the County. Most of whom are in Swamps and hiding places inaccessible to horseman.

The repeated heavy rains of late have rendered the numerous streams in the county impossible and are likely to remain so for the balance of this month except at five public crossings. The Deserters find shelter in these swamps by means of canoes & skiffs easily elude pursuit.

Many of those arrested were found in the woods & hiding places and many others waylaid[?] & caught in [?] night.

A list herewith shows the number & names or persons arrested*, the Rg't which they belong, and the disposition made of them.

Many others were arrested whose names are not given in the list. Some ____________ and other with expired furloughs as they [more not get published??] as deserters and having assurances of their making report of themselves. I suffered them to do so without sending them under guard.
The list of conscripts furnished are such as more liable under the age from 18 to 33 yrs and has failed to report themselves.

Your Ob. Servent, Rob. L. Adams, Capt. Rebel Troup

* List not included
