Searching for letters, journals, and other personal documents referencing the life and military service of Emanuel Monroe Cunnigen, who served as a sergeant in Company I of the Sixty-sixth U.S. Colored Infantry during the Civil War. Born in Yazoo, Mississippi, he survived the war and lived in Pike County with his wife, Martha, and children. Variations on the spelling of his last name include Cunniga (as listed in his military service file at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.), Cunigan, Cannigen, and Cimegan.
