This same Stephen (Steven) Owens of Raleigh, Smith County, later enlisted (Sept/Oct, 1863) at the age of 41 in Company E (Capt. J. E. Hunt's CO), 6th. Regiment, Miss. Cavalry. He is noted in the final surrender of this unit by Gen. Taylor at Citronelle, AL on May 4, 1865 and paroled May 12, 1865 at Gainesville, AL.
