I did some major looking last night. His father is Ethel Henry Porter b 1804 waterhaven Ct. He is a reverend . Married in New York about 1825. Came to Raliegh Tn in the mid-late 1820's and then to Shelby Co. I couldnt find anything on Edward Ethel Porter. I checked the Shelby Co records Census ,deaths, marriages ect. His father is on the census records as E H Porter is the 1865 census. As I said their is a letter from Ethel to Edward written aboard a ship dated 1848 to Memphis Tn. in the Archives. . I'm trying to figure if Edward sent a letter to his wife addressed to Mrs ED E Porter Marrietta Georgia Oct 6th no year from Canton Miss. It jives with 1863 since Edward was sent to that area to stop Union forces from attacking Jackson Ms. from Vicksburg and they fought in a skirmish near Bolton and Clinton Ms. I think that the union force was lead by Mcpherson. He maybe be on the border of Tn,Ms. since some of the company's from Ms enlisted in Shelby Co. need some one with ancestor to look at his marriage.I'm lost.
